HCL2012-01 PIECEMEAL ARMOUR
A DRAFT RULE FOR DETERMINING ARMOR TN AND REDUCTION SCORES WHEN DONNING ARMOUR IN PIECEMEAL.
Submitted for consensus approval by Henriech C. Libay, M.D., on the ninteenth of April, year two-thousand and twelve.
Sometimes, bushi will find themselves wearing less than a complete (full-match) set of armour. Component pieces were designed to complement each other, when worn together, to provide the maximum amount of protection.
This TRIAL RULE is to help determine the Effective TN if wearing less than a full-match set of armour.
The following is a list of armour pieces and the according weighted TN (TNtbH bonus):
Component Armour (build) | Weighted TNtbH |
---|---|
do (leather clam shell) | 0.999 |
do (leather splint) | 1.665 |
do (metal clam shell) | 3.33 |
do (metal splint) | 2.664 |
haidate (brigandine) | 1.665 |
haidate (brigandine & chain) | 2.331 |
haidate (plate) | 3.33 |
jingasa (metal) | 0.999 |
kabuto (3-8 plate) | 1.332 |
kabuto (16-32 plate) | 1.665 |
kote (plate) | 2.664 |
kote (splint) | 0.666 |
kote (splint & chain) | 1.332 |
mempo | 0.999 |
sode (leather splint) | 1.332 |
sode (metal splint) | 1.998 |
sode (plate) | 2.664 |
suneate (plate) | 1.332 |
suneate (splint) | 0.666 |
suneate (splint & chain) | 0.999 |
To determine the Effective (aggregate) TN, simply sum-up (round-up) the Weighted TNtbH values of the individual component armour worn as the conditional matching-set.
To determine the Estimable Reduction value of the worn set of armour, give 1-point for every component that has a Weighted TNtbH value greater than or equal to one; then add one to the final result.
For functional examples, reference the following (as determined from the most common composition of a match-set armour):
Armor Type | component-parts | Weighted TNtbH | Effective TN | Reduction |
---|---|---|---|---|
ASHIGARU | jingasa (metal) | 0.99 | ||
do (leather clam shell) | 0.99 | |||
suneate (splint) | 0.66 | 2.7 | 1 | |
LIGHT ARMOR | do (leather splint) | 1.655 | ||
kote (splint) | 0.66 | |||
suneate (splint) | 2 | 4.4 | 3 | |
HEAVY ARMOR | do (metal clam shell) | 3.33 | ||
sode (metal splint) | 1.998 | |||
kote (splint & chain) | 1.332 | |||
haidate (brigandine & chain) | 2.331 | |||
suneate (splint & chain) | 0.99 | 10 | 5 |
The above ruling is applicable for match-sets of armour (may not be complete, but donning more than two pieces of armour). If a character is donning two or less pieces of armor, simply add the according TNtbH values to determine the Effective TN (as above), then reduce it by a factor of two. If the sum is less than 1, then utilize the value 1 as your Armor TN.
Furthermore, as there is not enough pieces to effectively compliment each other, assign zero (0) as your default Reduction value for wearing such haphazard collection.
So, let’s say, all you intend to wear is a haidate (plate-build) worn as a sode; your functional TN would be 1. 33 (3.33 minus 2, round-down), with o Reduction.
